Having held mighty Rangers to a 1-1 draw in the Scottish Cup ΒΌ final earlier this year, giant-killers Partick Thistle won a replay at home.
Though literally not in the league of their opponents' 50,000 seater Ibrox Stadium, Partick Thistle's Firhill Ground was determined to look its best for Rangers' huge number of travelling supporters. A spruce-up was arranged with contractors.
A problem affecting 1/4 of the stadium was eliminating unsightly bird muck - which was proving difficult to remove from the seating blocks. It was feared that high pressure jets would inflict structural and water damage. Also the noise in the offices below would have been unbearable at an incredibly busy time for the club.
With such an important game to be played, different tactics were adopted by Partick Thistle's contract cleaners - Glasgow based The Blitz Group. Blitz Managing Director Jim Whelehan confirmed "It was a tough job - and there were areas of baked-on deposits, but the team found their form on the day."
Their secret weapon was found on Abbey Supplies' website: Bird Muck Remover, which seemed to be a world-class player. The transfer was made and 50 Litres of Bird Muck Remover was bought from Abbey Supplies' headquarters in Dorset.
Adopting a 3-3-3 formation, Blitz staff sprayed on the Bird Muck Remover. Midfielders then agitated the worst area with brushes - and finally the strikers washed away deposits with gentle water spray.
Result? 3,000 seats were cleaned in record time and the game attracted the biggest crowd of the season to Firhill. Jim Wehelan claimed to be "Over the moon" and confirmed that Bird Muck Remover will be a part of his starting line up when cleaning any other large areas.
Continuing the football analogy, Abbey Supplies' Managing Director, Chris Macdonald said "We have always known that our Bird Muck Remover solution is in a league of its own. Our goal is to be the obvious choice when there's similar work to be done".
