During the 1970’s there were no specialist lubricants for airguns and this caused several problems.
Using conventional mineral oils can cause ‘dieseling’.
The compression of air within the airgun causes heating. Heat, compressed air and oil can become a diesel engine. When the pellet is released an explosion can occur within the breech.
Even a flame can be seen in extreme cases. This is dangerous as it creates extreme pressures the guns are not designed to withstand.
The pellet is uncontrolled as it leaves the barrel meaning less accuracy and fewer kills.
